Train Journeys around the world – 3 of the Best!

Aleta Fimbres 22/04/2015

If you really get a kick out of travelling and your trip is more to do with the journey than your final destination, then train travel has to be the best way to go! I’ll be honest with you I was more than sceptical when I was talked into talking a 12 hour train ride by my girlfriend, it was my first ‘real’ train journey but wow I loved it! Most of us grow up with trains that take us a little bit up the country, there’s not much to see, not much to do and it’s kind of tedious. Well, imagine if you are either in luxury or looking out over some of the most beautiful scenery you have ever seen? Sounds good I know, so that’s why I decided to make this little bucket list of the world’s best train journeys

I promise that if you try any of the following train journeys you will not want to get off the train, they really are that good that you will never want them to end! I’d love to hear from everyone out there that has been on any of them, what did you think/love about the journey most? The same goes for any of you good people that have been on other train journeys that they would recommend to people. I always love hearing what you guys have got to say, so just pop your thoughts down in the comment box below.

All aboard, here’s the top 3:

Trans-Siberian Railway

The ‘Big Daddy’ had to make the list, didn’t it? No talk of train journeys can be complete without mentioning the famous Trans-Siberian Railway. This journey is a whopping 9,600 kilometres, did you know that by the time you have completed it you will have travelled a third of the planet!? You will be taken across Russia on a 19 day train ride that you will never, ever, forget! You can travel in style or slum it the choice is yours, you will be travelling through 7 different time zones on this epic adventure so a little bit of comfort might not be a bad idea. I absolutely love this one, I think everyone does!

Vietnam

I had to just put the whole country down because you can go from one end to the other, it’s not luxurious but it’s worth it. The journey will take you from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city or vice versa, it is with out doubt the best train journey I have been on. You can hop on and off at any point. The reason I loved it was because nearly every point that I got off the train I was right by the coast and only few minutes from the beach! What better way to chill out after being on a beautiful train journey than

lounging in the sun? Make sure if you only do one part to do Hue – Hoi An, out of this world for scenery!

The Glacier Express

Don’t be fooled by the name ‘Express’ because this by no means an express journey and we should all be thankful for that. It takes just over eight hours to work your way to end of the 289 kilometre train journey. You will be high up in the Swiss Alps, it’s more like an expedition that a train ride which is why it just had to make this list. You’ll be way up there at 2 kilometres above altitude and even cross 29l bridges plus 91 tunnels!
