Passion Play 2010
For the 50th time the Oberammergau inhabitants will adhere to their vow taken in 1634 after having survived the black plague which came over their village in 1633.
Since then they kept to their vow that says that they will perform a Passion Play every 10 years in memory to the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Once again this unique tradition will attract spectators from all over the world. What makes this performance even more special is the fact that only those actors are allowed on stage who are inhabitants of Oberammergau. The artistic background of the set and costumes is given through the long and still vivid tradition of woodcarving and painting which always had an impact on the production.
Even in our more and more fast-moving times, the Oberammergau Passion Play did not loose anything of its cultural significance and its contemporary explosive nature. Although facing a continuous development of music and dramaturgy, the Passion Play is still preserving its medieval origin.
Performances take place between May and October. Please ask for admission tickets with or without accommodation: Geschaftsstelle der Passionsspiele 2000 Eugen-Papst Str. 9a D-82487 Oberammergau Phone: +49-(0)8822-9231-0, Fax: +49-(0)8822-923190
